This refurbishment provided the opportunity to reframe Carluccio’s within one of London’s most iconic heritage settings, aligning the evolving brand with the character and grandeur of St Pancras. Working within HS1, English Heritage and Network Rail guidelines, a previously rejected scheme by another design practice was re-evaluated and developed into a more considered, refined and commercially responsive design.

The approach focused on working with what already existed, avoiding major M&E changes and allowing the 19th-century architecture to remain the hero. New interventions were intentionally quiet and contemporary, designed to complement rather than compete with the historic fabric. A rich yet balanced palette, authentic materials and carefully layered lighting enhanced the atmosphere while respecting the station’s brick, stone and iron detailing.
